Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce pictures of structures inside the body.

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce pictures of structures inside the body. It is used to help diagnose the causes of pain, swelling, and infection in the internal organs of the body, and to examine the baby in a pregnant woman, and the brain and hips in young children.

It is also used to help guide biopsies, diagnose heart conditions, and assess damage after a heart attack. Ultrasound is safe, non-invasive, and does not use ionizing radiation.

Ultrasound is safe and painless. Produces images of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound imaging is also known as ultrasound scan or  ultrasound.

It uses a small probe called a transducer and a gel that is placed directly on the skin. High-frequency sound waves travel from the probe through the gel and into the body. The probe picks up the bouncing sounds. A computer uses these sound waves to create an image. Ultrasound exams do not use  radiation  as (like the one used in  X-rays). Because the images are captured in real time, they can show the structure and movement of the internal organs of the body. They can also show blood flowing through the blood vessels.
